Do you want to play a leading role in developing a network for people with lived experience of gambling harms?
Often on our own, it is difficult to create the change we want to see. But when people come together and work towards a shared purpose, changing our world is possible.
Expert Link have received funding from Gamble Aware to work with people with lived experience of gambling harm to create a network that is owned by the community and truly representative of everyone that has experienced gambling harms.
The ambition is for the network to be able to make a real difference to people’s lives, with a voice that can meaningfully participate and influence national debate and policy making across the gambling sector.
For a network to be successful, people with lived experience of gambling harms must play the leading role in making the key decisions that develop the network.
We are therefore looking to work with a Panel of people with lived experience of gambling harms to work together and with the wider community to make key decisions on:
- The purpose, values and constitution of the network
- How budgets are allocated for the different aspects of work needed to develop the network e.g. Governance, communications, training.
- Developing a communication and funding strategy
What is required?
It is anticipated that the work will span a period of 16 months. Across this period Panel members will be required to attend online and face-to-face events looking at:
- Gathering evidence from the community (1 day)
- Values, purpose and strategy (3 days)
- Governance arrangements (2 days)
- Internal and external communications (2 days)
- Funding and sustainability (2 days)
Members will also be required to attend 12 monthly progress meetings over the period
Who should apply?
Everyone has skills and talents that can be harnessed to make a difference. We encourage anyone with lived experience of gambling harms, whether direct or as an affected other, to apply.
All members of the Panel will receive training to support them fulfil this role.
As it is critical to the success of the network that the Panel is inclusive, we encourage applications from across the full spectrum of the lived experience community, especially those who are currently under-represented within existing networks.
Development and remuneration
In addition to receiving personal development and peer research training, all Panel members will have access to a training budget to develop skills around communications, facilitation, governance, finance and budgeting and writing funding bids
Panel members will receive a £50 voucher to attend the first meeting, as a token gesture to recognise their contribution. In order to protect the autonomy and agency of the Panel, any further financial remuneration for Panel members will be determined by the Panel members themselves following the first meeting. Expert Link will provide information on remuneration approaches within existing networks in the gambling harms and other sectors to support decision making.
Reasonable expenses incurred to participate in the work will also be paid.
How to apply?
We are seeking 11-15 people to form a Panel.
Given the interest in the position, Expert Link staff will shortlisted applicants based on their responses.
Interviews will be conducted by a panel of people from outside of the gambling harms sector with lived experience of disadvantage and expertise in network development, communications and advocacy. People with lived experience of gambling harms will provide interviewers with background information about the gambling harms sector to support their decision making.
