The ACE's Framework

At Expert Link we are clear that an increased understanding of the role adverse childhood experiences can have on individuals is crucial if society wants to respond effectively to issues such as the increasing number of people currently rough sleeping and the high numbers of people dying on the streets.

However, a current focus on an Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) test or framework, has made us concerned about the potential affect this may have on our community.

Connecting as equals - Tuesday 5 May 2020

It is now more important than ever that people with lived experience of multiple disadvantages have their voices heard.

At Expert Link, we believe that when connected as equals, we can co-produce and achieve so much more. However, when we come together to do co-production, it can often feel like we are coming from un-connected worlds.

In this conversation we’ll look at how we can recognise the connections we do have and build a strong, equitable, community.

Have you been accommodated during COVID-19?

At Expert Link we believe that anyone accommodated during the COVID-19 emergency should have an opportunity to have their voices heard about future decisions.

We are carrying out a questionnaire to find out what accommodation people would want. We will use this information to try to influence local and national policy to make the right options available.

If you have been recently accommodated, please click on the button below and take 1 minute to complete the survey.

If you know people who have been recently accommodated, please share this link or a downloaded hardcopy.

The more responses we get, the better evidence we have to make a difference.Thank you for your support.

Committed to co-production

"We all have something of value to contribute."

At this unprecedented time, all of our day to day lives are changing. Regretfully, with lots of our work being undertaken face-to-face, Expert Link will no longer be able to deliver the training we had planned over the next few months.

However, we believe now is an opportunity for us all to learn and grow. To support our community, we will be hosting online Conversations on Co-production, to build an understanding of what Co-production should mean now and in the future. We are also providing platforms for people to remain connected at this time, discussing the issues that are important to them. And we will continue to gather evidence of the issues that matter to us all right now, and empower people to influence the change we want to see.

Please stay connected, and please stay safe.

Thank you

This year has been tough for all of us. Plans for the year have had to change with the onset of the coronavirus. The impact of lock downs and isolation, along with the uncertainty of when or if things would return to normal, has been hard.

It has been particularly hard in our community as we are tactile and “hugs” are an everyday norm. We have lost loved ones along the way and had our hopes, dreams and aspirations thrown into taters. But through all of this, our resilience and tenacity has shone through. We have not given up, but rather we have grown in the face of adversity, supporting one another along the way.

We have a lot to be proud of. As a network you have played a crucial role in supporting huge numbers of people into housing, listening to peoples aspirations and giving the right support at the right time. Your voices are increasingly being heard where decisions are made, with the effects being felt far beyond our network.

We know that for some of you Christmas is going to be a sad occasion, and for all of us it is going to be different. Whatever it is for you, know that you are valued and loved here at Expert Link.

#HomelessNotHopeless

As people with lived experience of disadvantage, we know that there is an abundance of skills and talents amongst those experiencing homelessness. However, far too often, campaigns depict us as hopeless individuals that need charity to fix us.

We want this to change. Over December we will be sharing some inspirational stories showing who we are. And we want anyone who wants too to join us!

Use these principles and solve the problem

Principle 1: No one person owns the truth. The wisdom and power should reside in the collective.

Principle 2: All stakeholders are afforded every opportunity to sit at the table equitably

Principle 3: We focus on the group purpose using a strengths-based approach

"Giving people a voice in their future."

In May 2020 we reached out to over 100 people accommodated through measures taken by the Government in response to COVID-19, allowing us to gain a snapshot of what housing people want for their future. We thank everyone for supporting us with their time.
